recipient of the 62
Doyle. First given in 1950, this annual award is the Jaycees’ way of recognizing a citizen for
his/her long-term dedication to making Elmhurst a better community.
Alice has worked in so many ways to make Elmhurst a better community. She has been a
longstanding member in the League of Women Voters, working with this organization to provide
forums by which Elmhurst residents can make informed decisions about political issues and
other community matters. Alice has supported the Elmhurst Art Museum’s fundraising efforts
and was also a strong supporter of the referendum that authorized the new Elmhurst Public
Library, a facility that continues to be used by a record number of residents and visitors. But
perhaps Alice is best known for her support of the Elmhurst Family YMCA, where she has
worked tirelessly as a volunteer anywhere she is needed, from the water therapy classes to cochairing the Elmhurst YMCA Annual Dinner Dance event for over 25 years.
“I have worked with Alice since 2001 on the Elmhurst YMCA Annual Dinner Dance
Committee and Annual Campaign. She is tireless in her pursuit to find sponsors and donors to
support our local Elmhurst YMCA,” states Betsy Hanisch, recipient of the Distinguished Service
Award (2005). “Every day, Alice is an Ambassador and encourages anyone and everyone to
be a good friend to the YMCA. She has raised more money than any other board member or
volunteer for our Annual Campaign. She also secures countless donations from local businesses
and residents to use in our silent and live auctions for our Elmhurst YMCA Annual Dinner
Dance.”
Over the last 25 years, Alice has served on the Board of Directors, co-chaired the annual
gala fundraiser numerous times and continues to be an integral part of the Annual Giving
campaign, which raises dollars to provide scholarships for people who otherwise could not afford
the services of the YMCA. Alice has worked on the fundraising campaigns for other worthy
Elmhurst organizations such as the Elmhurst Historical Society, the Elmhurst Art Museum, and
Relay for Life. Alice is proud to have lived in Elmhurst for over forty years while raising three
wonderful children and helping so many worthy causes.
